Repertoire Music of the Baroque, Classic, Romantic, Impressionistic and Contemporary eras. See the 2006 Edition of the OMTA Syllabus Manual for specific guidelines for each level and the OMTA Syllabus Repertoire lists for repertoire suggestions. Method book pieces and transcriptions are not permitted. Syllabus manuals and repertoire lists can be purchased from the OMTA state office. Contact Adam Smith at 541-255-2526 or office@oregonmta.org.
Description OMTA Syllabus is a suggested course of study made available to each member to use as a guide in teaching. It covers theory, technique, sight-reading and ear training, as well as repertoire. A qualified adjudicator evaluates the student's presentation of the requirements and provides written comments. Certificates are awarded to participating students. Syllabi have been written for piano, organ, voice, strings, woodwinds, guitar and jazz piano.

General information:

  1. All forms, fee schedules and recent changes are available on the OMTA website. If you don't have access to the Internet please contact your Syllabus Chair before deadlines are due.
  2. All teachers must schedule a conference for every Syllabus in which they participate.
  3. Dates and adjudicators are assigned by the State Chair and State Scheduling Chair. We are obliged to fill these assigned days according to adjudicator availability.
  4. When requesting days and times, please consider weekdays and Sunday mornings.
  5. If we can use your studio, and your students fill fewer than 7 hours, we ask that you host other students.
  6. Contact District Syllabus Chair for any questions or further information.

Send all the forms and fees to the District Chair.

Memorization Depends on Syllabus level.
Teaching Aids Syllabus demonstration videos are available from District Library Chair. Check these out as they are very helpful in preparing students for each level.

Rhythm reading and sight reading examples for levels I-X can be purchased for $3.00 per set. 3 sets are available:

  • 2001-2003
  • 2004-2006
  • 2006-2008
